5. LEADERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HELPING MAKE POSSIBLE WHAT THEY ARE REQUIRING OTHERS TO DO

A boss can command whatever she likes. A leader gets her authority from making sure that people have a chance to learn to do what she asks.

What I particularly enjoy is that our Science Department Head is also teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science classes. When our school requires our department to put on some sort of presentation, she shows us what she has done with her classes in the past, as well as inform us what she is going to do this year.

This is important. I also think it is valuable when science chairs share some of their mistakes or frustrations.

I like what's going on in Robert's school and wish we had an opportunity to meet and share like that. We don't even have department meetings anymore. :(

I feel this is an important aspect because as teachers we lead our classroom. In doing this we model which entails us modeling for our students what we want the finished product to look like. By us doing this we our enabling the students to have a complete finished product.

Robert I think that is fantastic that your department chair lets you in on what she is doing in her classroom.

A leader with a diverse background and current knowledge on the reality of teaching in a classroom is invaluable.

The fact she is willing to help others in various ways as their needs requires is wonderful. She is an excellent roll model it seems.

Robert—THIS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!! Why would I listen to someone who does not have previous and CURRENT experience with what is going on in our classrooms?! It is so much easier to listen to a leader who is part of the company of "them what has been shot at."

I am a believer in remembering whose side you are on. Anytime a person teaches or coaches, the students or players success is their own.
